Thursday the 22.September we held the first meeting for the discussion forum related to the Diversity Charter in Norway, at IMDI in Tollbugata.

The topic for the epert forum was recruitment. Present at the meeting were representatives for various organisations, businesses and government bodies including, but not limited to: Aker Solutions, DNBNor, Posten, Norsk Folkehjelp and Kreftforeningen.

Claus Jervell, from the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud, opened the meeting and talked about the Duty to promote equality and the Duty to report, in addition to the work and role of the Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud. There were presentations exemplifying the work of Opera Software and Oslo University Hospital in recruiting people with a multicultural background. After these presentations, smaller groups discussed possibilities and challenges when it comes to recruiting for diversity. Professor of Social Psychology, Gro Mjeldheim Sandal, gave us an interesting insight in how recruitment for diversity works and how different expectations, when it comes to, for instance, the interviewing process, creates unnecessary difficulties.
